The GPs assets make no sense to include. Its not rocket science to make a UGMA disappear from the counted assets and with a bit of thinking one can do so w/o apparent violation of applicable laws. Now if one times such a move poorly then the income effect may be required to be reported.

I don't see where this is a per se an independent student situation --to me it looks far simpler to plug in a token amount of support from the one bio parent which makes the formulas work better--and not seek dispensation-and if said parent refuses to cooperate then and only then seek dispensation on said grounds.

Look, if GP is relatively well off and bioparents are not--and GP has NOT adoptd the child then if the rules say use parents data one would be unwise to seek to have some social engineer seek to substitute GP's data as basis for aid. Hey if the bio parents are each well off but disfuctional and GP is poor as a church mouse the aid fromula may say no aid--your post is unclear as to ability of either bio parents to pay.
