Hello,
Was trying to find out if a taxpayer can deduct the costs for their high school aged child that is taking dual (high school classes that also count for college)credit courses? If it is possible, can a 529 plan be used to cover those expenses? I thought I read somewhere the student had to be over age 18 to get any tax benefit.
Thanks!

Essentially I think it boils down to who gets paid for the service provided--if the institution is listed by DOE it counts, if not it doesn't count.

So if you enroll and pay at Yale for dual credit in HS it likley counts but if you enroll and pay in public H S for dual credit with Yale it likley does not count. And if you enroll and pay at Yale for a program which doesn't count anyplace--it still likley counts for 529 as QED.

Hi Drew,
You left it pretty open with several likely's. Could you point me to a reference or code section?
