Hi all,
We have two children, one entering grade 9 in the Fall, the other entering grade 7. We have been overseas for most of our working lives and have set up a diversified index fund portfolio as a college fund. We currently have about 160K socked away. My question is whether it is worth it to put it all in a 529 or keep as is. We have never had to pay taxes because of our exempt status. We are teachers at international schools. We have always used the foreign earned income exclusion (currently 105K) to offset our tax burden.
I like being able to use the Schab intelligent portfolios, which manage our funds, do tax loss harvesting automatically. If we move it all into a 529, rate of return will likely be lower and we won't have much control over rebalancing.
What do people think?
