Hello,
My child is starting her 3rd year of college. College housing is not offered beyond the 2nd year.
My child is also diagnosed with OCD, Generalized Anxiety, etc. The main implication of these are that she cannot share a room with another person. She was allowed a private room in school housing after submitting a note from her licensed psychotherapist. This resulted in increased housing costs. However, this clearly falls under the defined cost of living from the school.
The problem is now that she has to live off campus, the off campus housing estimate from UCSC is a much lower than on the on campus amount. We're finding that the estimate appears to be based on "sharing a room" which doesn't work.
Would "special needs" apply in this scenario? And if so how would we determine how much? We want to avoid any audit surprises and follow the rules. How do the rules apply in our situation, if at all?
Thank you.
John
