My granddaughter paid 2020 fees in Dec. 2019, and we withdrew from 529 in 2019. Due to Covid 19, she is finishing this semester online at home. The college has refunded part of the room and board (say $1000). Can we take this $1000 into account, and just claim $1000 less when we handle her exepnses for next term in 2020.
Same situation for grandson, but the 2020 winter term is paid in Jan. 2020, and we withdrew 529 in 2020. Can the refund be used so that we claim $1000 less for the next term in 2020?
My grandson wants to live in a rented house with six of his friends starting Sept. 2020. The landlord required an $800 deposit to be paid in Dec. 2019. He paid that and we claimed it in 2019. (Even it is 2020 room, the expense was paid in 2019). If the covid 19 continues and he is required to stay home and do online classes. Does he need to do anything if the landlord keeps the deposit or refunds the deposit?
