I am an independent student and my parents cannot claim me. A few years ago, my sister and I inherited a small house together. I have been reporting that house as an asset to FAFSA, and this really hurts my financial aid eligibility. Neither of us live in that house, but I pay rent at my own house. Do I still have to report the house that we inherited as an asset? The house is in a trust that we cannot access, although we technically own it.
