Room and Board to complete a session interrupted by illnessj

My son got mono 3 weeks into first summer session during which he was enrolled half time. He couldn't complete his courses until he recovered and he got an extension and it basically took him the second session to do that, but he wasn't enrolled in that session. Can we use the 529 plan to cover his off campus room and board expenses while he completed the interrupted courses due to mono? I have medical records documenting his condition and school emails extending the time he had to work to complete the interrupted courses. And he was required to complete the interrupted courses In order to graduate in August. Thanks.

Yes, so long as the cost of room and board does not exceed the estimates provided by the qualified institution. The financial aid office can supply you with the required information if you do not already have it.
