I would like to invest only in REIT mutual fund(s).....can I do this?..Where?

In your brokerage account, EIRA, or UTMA/UGMA. You cannot chose or direct your investments in a 529. You can only use the funds provided by the state plans. None of the state plans will be so limited as to offer only REITs.

Is it possible (and desirable) to start up my 529 plan from another State's plan??

Yes,it its possible. Most of the other states' 529 savings plans are available to you. Whether or not it is desirable depends on your personal circumstances, risk aversion, investment predictions, tax & time considerations, and other financial/family factors.

I am in the same boat as you. I think Nebraska Illinois and Alabama 529s have 100% REIT portfolios. Did you find any other states?
