I would like to set up a 529 plan for my one of my brother's children. He has 3 children, 2 of which are SSI eligible and have ABLE accounts. The third child is not SSI eligible, and my question is if the 529 account in the non eligible child's name would affect the eligibility of the other 2 children that are currently receiving SSI.
From what research I've done, it seems that the answer is no. The assets of one child do not affect the assets of another, especially if I, the uncle, own the account with the non-eligible child as the beneficiary. However, for my brother's sake, I want to make sure of this before my gift turns into a headache.
Thanks in advance!
