Using 529 funds to pay for college credits while still a high school student

My daughter is a sophomore in high school. She's looking at summer programs at Boston University and Northwestern that offer college courses for credit. While I don't think I can use 529 funds for room and board since she theoretically won't be more than a half-time student, can we use the 529 to pay for the course costs?

If your daughter is taking college credit classes at an accredited school - and BU and Northwestern most certainly are - then they would be considered qualified higher education expenses, and you could reimburse yourself for those expenses using assets from your 529 plan. Kudos to her for getting ahead of the game!
